In Hawaiian, pikoʻole literally translates to "crownless" or "without a piko." It is most commonly used to describe a pāpale piko ʻole, which is a traditional crownless or open-top woven hat.
Word Breakdown
  • Piko: Means navel, umbilical cord, or the crown/top (as of a head or hat).
  • ʻOle: Means without, not, or nothing (absent).
  • Cultural Usage
  • Pāpale Piko ʻOle: An open-top or visor-like straw hat traditionally hand-woven from lauhala(the leaves of the hala tree).
  • Fashion: These crownless hats are popular for beach days, hula performances, or wearing with hair styled up in a bun (such as the local tītah bun).
  • Do you have long hair ? You love putting your hair up?
  • This Hat Style is only made with the Stiff Brim Hats. Flair up (Cowboy/Paniolo) or Flat Brim Style.

All Stiff Brim Hat Styles are 100% Australian Wool.

Creating a one of a kind Hat is pretty easy. You choose the elements you'd like to see on it and I freehand burn it all into the hat all over using pyrography techniques. Now don't forget, these hat styles do not have the crown, so the art you choose will be burned on the top and underside of the brim only.
